The Rumour Said Fire (DK)
When vocalist, songwriter and guitarist Jesper Lidang collected a band together in 2008 after lengthy musical experiments, it was under the name The Rumour Said Fire. The name is more than just a title, it’s also a designation of the time period from a rumour starting until it’s either confirmed or disproved. Said in another way, it takes its origins in the period between war and peace, between love and hate, between friendship and enmity or sobriety and alcoholism – to name some grand examples. If you take a closer listen to the music, The Rumour Said Fire is a hybrid of classic folk songwriting where the acoustic guitar and vocal harmonies are in focus similar for example to Simon and Garfunkel. In a more contemporary perspective, the band proudly point to inspirations such as Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Decemberists and Wolf Parade. The textual universe’s dominant themes are war, death, anxiety, as well as love, childhood and perdition. The Rumour Said Fire are by no means reduced to gloomy and depressing thoughts however, they’re also into dancing, intoxication and the joy of being alive.
