Katzenjammer
Solveig Heilo, Anne Marit Bergheim, Turid Jørgensen and Marianne Sveen call themselves Katzenjammer, but in the course of the last year the quartet’s career has turned out to be everything other than mere cat calls.
It speaks volumes about the bands audience appeal that they sold out two shows at Rockefeller in 2009. Artists with considerably longer careers and higher record sales are delighted with one full house at Oslo’s favourite venue.
The debut album Le Pop (Proppeller Recordings/Nettwerk) came in August 2008 to some extremely good reviews. In the wake of the releasean extremely loyal fanbase has developed all over the country, fans who really know how to appreciate Katzenjammer’s uninhibited recipe of rock flavoured folk music of all kinds.
In 2009 Katzenjammer started to bring their international sound out from the confines of Norway. The have had success at the industry convention Eurosonic in the Netherlands, warmed up for the pop band Keane at the gigantic O2 Arena in London, played at SXSW, been invited to play at Bonnaroo in Nashville by David Byrne, played at Summerfest in Milwaukee and in addition completed longer tours of Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark.
“Le Pop” is an especially unprejudiced mix of various East-European folk music, the B-52s, the sisters Kate & Anna McGarrigle, quirky bluegrass, country-blues (on the secret track which ducks up after the last song, “Mother Suerior”) and a carnival orchestra right on the edge.
