Mari Persen
Mari Persen from Voss is one of Music-Norway’s best kept secrets even though most have heard her play and sing many times before. She’s the one playing violin on Madrugada’s “Lift Me”, the one choiring on the refrain to Real Ones’ “Lonesome Town”, it’s Mari who’s arranged the strings on John Olav Nilsen’s “Diamanter og Kirsebær”, playing fele on Matias Tellez’ “Brand New Kicks” and Sondre Lerche’s “Good Luck” just to mention a selection.
Mari Persen’s eponymous debut was launched in Norway on September 28th 2009 on the label Music For Records, and in Japan in February 2010 (Colorfield Records). The album is produced by Tommy Haltbakk, Mari Persen and HP Gundersen. The single “Melody” was oft-played on NRK P1 in 2009, and the album has so far received a host of great reviews, from 5/6 in Aftenposten, Dagbladet, Bergens Avis and Dagsavisen, to 6/6 in Trønderavisa.
“..The majority of those lucky enough to be unaware of what one can expect of songwriter Mari Persen will have a bountiful surprise in wait. This is sweet and unassailably original pop music with fine melodies, catchy grooves and surprising instrumentation(….) It carries the scent of a breakthrough”. (Faro Journalen)
