HOWL
Six piece Howl, from Oslo, released the debut album “Higher Class of Lush” in Autumn 2007, and first single “Repeater” was listed on NRK P3 for no less than 5 months. After a cautious start the record received a considerable helping hand in the wake of two powerful concerts at by:Larm 2008 and a subsequent A-listing on NRK P3. Single number two, “Nineteenseventyfive”, also had its fair share of plays on P3. The band has used a great deal of 2009 to hand polish a new studio album which will see physical and digital release in March 2010.
If you ask the band themselves to list their sources of inspiration, you’d hear everything from the Stones, Big Star, Spiritualized, Built to Spill, Sonic Youth and Springsteen, to Hamsun, Bukowski and Kerouac. Howl have listened to equal parts modern indie and the highlights of rock history.
“The band have found their own way to a perfect mix of soulful big city Autumn, rock desperation and riff elegance which in time will make them leaders in their field . A magnificent debut.” (Bergens Tidende on “Higher Class of Lush” – 6/6)
“Furthermore the boy’s rock is timeless. Not just that – it’s magnificent, life enhancing, fiery and at times monstrously melodious. Moreover up front they have a vocalist, Simen Lund, with a tailor made voice for the somewhat desperate mood resting over the album – a desperation which Howl turn into something positive in the apparent pure joy over the act of playing in a band.” (VG on "Higher Class of Lush 5/6)
