Jaga Jazzist
Jaga Jazzist have become something of a musical phenomena over the course of their 15 year lifetime. Not just unique and innovative as a band, current and former members have also made a name for themselves in other contexts, either with their own projects or as collaborative partners for other artists. Equipped with trumpet, trombone, electric guitar, bass, tuba, bass clarinet, keyboards, vibraphone and electronics, they waltz over musical boundaries and create timeless, suggestive, catchy and subtle music.
The whole thing started in Tønsberg back in 1994 when main songwriter Lars Horntveth was just 14 years old, but they finally shot to music lovers attention with the album ‘A Living Room Hush’ in 2001. Thereafter followed a contract with Ninja Tune, two further critically acclaimed albums and extensive touring throughout Europe.
Important inspiration sources include, according to the band themselves, Steve Reich, My Bloody Valentine, Fela Kuti, Dungen, Jean Claude Vannier, Tortoise, Cornelius, Sonic Youth and Radiohead. After a period of hibernation the table is finally set for something new from the Jazzist crew, and the album “One Armed Bandit” is due for release in January 2010. The band advise that we can expect an album where Fela Kuti meets Wagner.
