Joensuu 1685 (FIN)
Noise evangelists. Young rock trio mix feedback with lazy beats, beautiful music with trippy atmosphere. Touches heaven, heaven and that which lies beneath.
Joensuu 1685 (pronounced: Yo-Anne-Sioux Sixteen-Eighty-Five) was started in 2007 by the brothers Mikko and Markus Joensuu and Risto Joensuu (same name, no relation). Repetitive bass riffs, powerful but reserved drumming, all encompassing guitar overtones, pastoral organ and Mikko’s vocal together create an original sound and add something new to the scene they draw inspiration from: blues influenced garage psychedelia from the late 60s to the wall of sound from the 80s and early 90s. Their self titled debut album has attracted excellent reviews and high rankings in the musical end of year round up in Finland.
" (…)The music world of Scandinavia is a grossly untapped resource of incredible art that we feel needs to brought into the U.S. mainstream. One of those artists in his mighty collection that stood out was JOENSUU 1685. Their new, self-titled album takes everything you love from My Bloody Valentine, Skywave and The Jesus & Mary Chain and blends it together beautifully – giving you the feeling of taking a warm piss on a cold Winter’s night.
