Elephant 9
Elephant9 are one of the most exciting bands in the Norwegian jazz scene right now. Although, the term jazz is perhaps a little misleading here, as the trio have cooked up their own distinct blend and mix jazz, rock, prog and psychedelia in an extremely energetic manner. Elephant9 consist of Ståle Storløkken (Supersilent, Humcrush) on keyboards, Nikolai Eilertsen (The National Bank, Lester, Big Bang) on bass, and Torstein Lofthus (Shining) on drums. With Storløkken mostly concentrating on his Hammond B3 and electric-piano, the sound of Elephant9 is a taste of the late 60s and early 70s. Together with the driving and rock solid rhythm section he creates an extremely tight unit, which oozes musicality and the pure joy of performing.
“Fabulous, freaky-deaky Scandi-jazz debut.” (Uncut, US)
“Elephant9 have set fire to all headgear, shaking free their straggly manes for a deranged session of acid prog headbanging” (BBC)
