Solveig Slettahjell NO

Solveig Slettahjell has always sung. She’s a trained jazz singer, but her upbringing’s close relationship to church music, Norwegian psalms as well as American spirituals, remain extremely present in her expression. One can also trace obvious references to the American singer/songwriter tradition.

Slow Motion Quintet has been her main project since their first concert together in 2001. This concert also became their debut album “Slow Motion Orchestra”. Since then the Slow Motion project has released four more album, which has resulted in one Spelleman prize and one nomination. The last album “Domestic Songs” is based on Slow Motion Duo (with the trumpeter Sjur Miljeteig), where Solveig has accompanied herself on piano.

Since the very beginning in 2001 the band has toured extensively, mostly in Europe but also in Chile, USA, Russia, India and Pakistan. Solveig Slettahjell’s Slow Motion Orchestra released their sixth album “Taran Seasons” in the autumn of 2009.
