Mathias Eick’s background is from Jaga Jazzist, but is one of the members who has been involved in the most other projects. Anyone with a little knowledge of the music collective from Tønsberg and their activities will know that this is no mean feat. In recent years he’s played with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra with Chick Corea, Jacob Young, Iro Haarla, Bigbang, Motif, Trygve Seim, Jan Gunnar Hoff group featuring Mike Stern and Maria João, Audun Kleive, Morten Abel, Bertine Zetlitz, Thomas Dybdahl, Julius Winger, Manu Katché and Lars Hornveth to name a few. Mathias is a genuine multi-instrumentalist and has mastered the trumpet, contrabass, piano, vibraphone and can play pretty much whatever there is a need for. In 2007 he received the New Talent Award from the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE), and during by:Larm 2009 he was awarded the prestigious Statoil Stipend, worth 800.000kr earmarked export activities. Since then Mathias has toured worldwide and is on the verge of a truly international career. He comes to by:Larm with his quartet.
